Associate Head Coach Tye Harvey

Tye over 19'4.75"

Tye just recently retired from professional track and field and moved to Austin with his wife, 3-time Olympic High Jumper Amy Acuff, and their 8 month old daughter Elsa.  As a professional vaulter, Tye has a personal best of 19'5.5", and was the Silver Medalist at the World Indoor Championships in 2001.  He was also an alternate to the 2004 Olympic Team in Athens, having placed 4th by one miss at the same height of 19'0.25" as the 3rd place vaulter at the U.S. Olympic Trials.

Tye has spent extensive time training under and coaching alongside Earl Bell of Bell Athletics in Jonesboro, Arkansas. Earl Bell, a 3 time Olympic vaulter, is highly regarded as the finest pole vaulting coach in this nation and worldwide.  Tye has also studied under Jan Johnson of Skyjumpers in California. Jan is also a former Olympic vaulter and considered by many to be the Godfather of U.S. pole vaulting due to his extensive experience as a coach, camp-promoter, involvement with several rule-making committees and organizations, affiliation with pole manufacturers, and as the father of Chelsea Johnson.

For further information, Tye's USATF bio can be found at http://www.usatf.org/athletes/bios/TrackAndFieldArchive/2002/Harvey_Tye.asp.
