American Track League (ATL) Meet THIS FRIDAY, May 24

The American Track League rolls into Texas this Friday night (May 23) for its 4th stop on the tour which promises to revolutionize the sport of track and field. This FREE and high energy event featuring live music and the ATL dance team will be hosted by Texas State University in San Marcos (1100 Aquarena Springs Drive San Marcos, TX 78666). Many Olympic Heroes will be on hand for the competition which allows fans to get up close and personal with the competitors.

2-Time World Champion, Lolo Jones will seek her 2nd win on the tour in the 100m Hurdles, but it wont come easy as she will have to face the very talented Olympic Bronze Medalist, Janay DeLoach.

The mens 400m Hurdles will feature the “Worlds Greatest Athlete”, Ashton Eaton. Ashton is the World and Olympic Champion and World Record holder in the Decathlon but this evening he will be trying his talents out on his new event, the 400m hurdles.

Brittney Reece will feature in the womens Long Jump, an event where she too found Olympic Glory winning Gold in London 2012 to compliment her 5 World titles.

The rarely run 300m race will feature 3-Time Olympic Gold Medalist and former Baylor athlete, Jeremy Wariner.

The Mens Pole Vault will include more local stars with Texas States own Logan Cunningham facing UT alum Trey Hardee, the latter of which is a 2-Time World Champion and Olympic Silver Medalist in the Decathlon.

The events which kick off at 7:00pm on Friday, will be hosted by master of ceremonies Paul Souza, the lead singer of the Velveteen Playboys. The main entertainment of the night will be the sounds and experience of award winning DJ, Abe the Assassin, and the girls of the ATL Dance team, led bySabrina Clark, the “2011 NFLs Hottest Cheerleader”.

Summer Pole Vaulting

Your spring track season may have been over after your District, Area, Regional, or State Meets, but you don't have to wait another 2/3 of a year to continue pole vaulting!  Seriously, put down the football helmets, cross country spikes, and pom-poms and decide now if you are curious or serious about your pole vaulting future.  The 7 State Qualifiers mentioned above did not make it that far by just fooling around with the pole vault a couple of months each year... three of them have been pole vaulting year-round for over 7 years!  I would venture a conservative guess that over 75% of all the pole vaulters on the medal stand at the State Meet have private coaches and pole vault at least 8 months per year.

This summer Lone Star PV will compete in 2 separate youth circuits (USATF and TAAF), and 1 All-Comers Circuit (all ages and abilities).  Coaches Kris Allison and Will Kirchoff will split coaching duties at practice and at each event.  Youth athletes can compete in 1, 2, or all 3 circuits if they wish but must note any conflicts via the schedules provided below.  Youth, Open, Masters, and/or Seniors may compete on our Club Team at any of the All-Comers events.

All-Comers Team:   Open to all ages!  You must enter yourselves individually for all of these events except the June 21st meet.

Youth Teams:

    1.  USATF Junior Olympics: USATF (USA Track and Field) is our national governing body for track and field and is the organization that selects the national track and field teams.  Athletes ages 13-18 are eligible to compete in this meet circuit provided they do not turn 18 prior to July 27th.  Athletes must also be a member of USATF South Texas under our club name, Lone Star PV, LLC, and compete in separate 2-year age divisions include ages 13-14, 15-16, and 17-18.  The Top 12 Finishers in each event of each age division at the District Qualifier in San Marcos on June 21st advance to the Regional Qualifier in San Marcos on July 9-12.  The top 5 Finishers in the Regional Qualifier to advance to the National Championships in Humble on July 21-27.  If interested in participating, please email me your intent to compete on the USATF Youth Team and your t-shirt size by May 30th.  We will handle all meet registration/entry, but you must provide your own transportation, meals, and lodging related to each event.  A team membership fee of $50 to cover the uniform and t-shirt expenses is due by June 15th.  We will charge a $40 coaching fee per event which will include meet entry fees, pole use and transport, time, and travel expenses.  These fees are due at the last practice prior to each event.

    2.  TAAF State Games of Texas:  TAAF (Texas Amateur Athletic Federation) is a smaller 2-meet circuit within Texas that is composed of one qualifier meet and its annual State Games of Texas championship.   Athletes ages 13-18 are eligibile to compete in 2-year age groups.  This is a meet series sponsored by the cities of the state of Texas parks and recreation departments.  We are seeking to become an affiliate member club through the City of New Braunfels, and if we are approved, then we will handle the registrations and all compete together at the Region 3 Meet in Hutto on July 11.  If not, then each person will have to register individually and compete in the Region designated by the county in which you reside.  A team membership fee of $50 to cover the uniform and t-shirt expenses is due by June 15th (if doing both USATF and TAAF, only pay this fee once).  We will charge a $40 coaching fee per event which will include meet entry fees, pole use and transport, time, and travel expenses.  These fees are due at the last practice prior to each event.

Port Aransas Beach Vault

I am excited to announce that Lone Star PV is putting on a new summer event this year!  On June 28th we will hold the 1st Annual Port Aransas Beach Vault pole vaulting competition at Roberts Point Park in Port Aransas, TX.  It will be similar to events like the River Vault, Expo Explosion, and Summer Fun meets in which we'll have 2 runways and pits going at once, 8 separate competition divisions, music, food, and lots of fun!  We will need help in pulling the event off with loading and unloading equipment, setup and tear-down, working the registration table, and setting the bars and standards.  As the event draws closer we'll put up a volunteer list at practice, and I hope to have more than enough help.  Co-sponsoring the meet is the West Athletics Vault Crew out of Portland, TX, and they will help divide the labor.  Check out the website and register: www.portaransasbeachvault.com

Facility Updates

A HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who donated funds towards purchasing the new Gill SafetyMax box collars.  We now have these collars on both runways and have been using the one on the main pit for about 2 months now.  It has already prevented a few people from falling into the plant box and getting injured.  These are required equipment for college vaulters in the NCAA already and will be for high schools next season.

Additionally, we have added over a dozen brand new poles to our club practice series to better accommodate all of our vaulters.  Surplus donations from the box collar drive along with a successful spring season made this possible.

Looking forward to a fun summer filled with PR's and smiles!

Thanks,
